BOOM Supersonic brings the future 29/11/2017

‘When you can get there in half a time, where will you go?’

At the Paris Air Show on June 20th, Boom Supersonic unveiled the refined complete design of its XB-1 Supersonic Demonstrator, which is set to begin flying next year. The company announced that it’s received 76 orders from five airlines so, the prospect of supersonic travel with Boom is now even closer to a reality.

Inside the jet will be business-class seats, which aren’t lie-flat. When TPG contributor Jason Steele visited Boom, he found that the business-class product will be similar to what passengers can find in domestic first-class aeroplane cabins. Airlines will have the opportunity of ordering one of two configurations: 55 seats in a one-class configuration (all business class) or 45 seats in a two-class configuration (30 first-class seats and 15 business-class seats). The jet will cost customers 200 million dollars.

As stated in CNN Travel ‘’the Boom aeroplane would travel at Mach 2.2 -- more than twice the speed of sound and 2.6 times faster than any other airliner -- and fly from New York to London in 3.4 hours. That's San Francisco to Tokyo in 4.7 hours or Los Angeles to Sydney in six. That transatlantic trip cuts the standard seven-hour journey by more than half. With a round-trip price tag of $5,000 it's not exactly "affordable" travel, but for the world's business elite, it's a steal.’’

Boom plans to cut flight-time by flying at 60,000 feet, meaning passengers will be able to see the curvature of the Earth. These high-flying travellers will have to choose between comfort and speed. The company expects the passenger jet to take the skies and begin operations by 2023.
