It’s no surprise that there are many studies out there outlining all the great benefits to traveling. Whether it be near or far, traveling opens so many doors and creates ample opportunities for people. There is a sense of accomplishment that comes with exploring and conquering a new place. You get this feeling that simply cannot be described…
Speaking from experience, traveling fills your heart and once you start you simply cannot stop. I guess that’s why people commonly use the expression ‘I caught the travel bug’.
It’s important to step away from your mundane daily routine and make time for travel at least once a year if possible and if not, you could always take a few days to exploring somewhere new in your own country.
In case you are still on the fence about whether to book that trip you’ve always dreamed of taking, here are a few reasons why you should!
What’s more exciting than getting together with a friend, partner or family member to plan for a trip away? There is nothing I love more than spending my hard-earned wages on booking some flights to a random place in the world I’ve never been before. Deciding on a place to visit, booking those flights and the perfect accommodation is exhilarating.
The best part about booking a trip is the lead up to it. Counting down the days on the countdown app that you downloaded specifically for this trip and watching it go from one hundred days, to seven days, to one day. What a feeling!
2. Meet new people
Meeting new people is one of the main reasons to travel. You can learn so much by just listening to like-minded travellers. There’s so much you can gain from listening to another person’s story and life experiences. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by what you can discover from having one conversation with a person you’ve never met before.
Mix with the locals from that place too. There’s a lot to be said about having a conversation with a person from a different place than you. Often, locals are delighted to see tourists in their home place, it gives them a sense of pride. So, sit down and let them tell you a bit about their history that might not be in one of your travel books.
3. Experience different cultures
Just like meeting new people, you can learn a lot from experiencing new cultures. You’ll be opened to a whole new world, experiencing new sights, architecture, languages, food and smells. Dive into that culture. After all you are there to experience what that place has to offer, and you may never get the chance to experience it again.
4. Self- Confidence
It’s amazing what traveling will do for your self-confidence. Being forced to communicate with others, most likely in a foreign language will improve your communication and people skills. These skills will stick with you throughout your life and will also improve your future travel experiences.
5. Create long lasting memories
You’ll remember these people, places and experiences so vividly in your mind forever. You’ll create long lasting bonds with friends and family and always remember the people you met along the way. However, don’t be afraid to take photographs of everything! It’s amazing to have photos to look back on and to show everyone back home what you got up to. Share these photos to all your social media accounts, making it your own personal online photo album.
